Praise Report: Sandy Thomas

March 1, 2016 – a BIG day for Sandy Thomas, Area Rep for Eastern Maine!

Congratulations to Sandy Thomas on two major accomplishments on the same day. Today, March 1, 2016, Sandy retired after 46 years in the work force and simultaneously became a full time FCA staff member.

Sandy has coached high school and college girls basketball for 25 years, at University of Maine (‘88-‘92), University of Michigan (‘92-‘96), Indiana University of Pennsylvania (‘96-‘02,) For the past eight years she served as Supervisor in University of Maine’s Athletic Department for their work study program.

Sandy joined FCA staff part time in October 2013 and is now grateful, as she retires from University of Maine, to be able to devote all of her time to FCA’s ministry. “This morning I read these words from Philippians 3:10 – and they are the most important thing: ‘My goal is to know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.’ That is what I want my years to be about now.

“I have ten huddles in the local area and my kids did a great job of leading them, but now I’m excited to spend more time with the kids and pour into the lives of athletes and coaches. When I coached, I was very successful in the eyes of the world as far as winnings and championships, but I didn’t always do it well as a coach. Now, I want to help coaches understand what it is to become a 3-Dimensional coach,” Sandy said.

A group of Sandy’s friends have gifted her a five-day retreat on an island off the coast of Maine for the next five days. She hopes it will be a time to regroup and hear from the Lord, and when she returns she is eager to hit the ground running for FCA: “I’m excited about seeing all that God is going to do up here – it’s kind of dark, but slowly opening up and God is moving through sport here.”
