Gordon College FCA Sponsoring Campus Wide Event

Wenham, MA – March 14, 2016 – The Fellowship of Christian Athletes will be hosting an on campus event featuring former NFL player William Green on March 23, 2016.  Green will share his inspirational story at 8:00 PM at McDonald Hall.  The event is free of charge and open to all.  http://www.williegreeninspires.com/

Sue Kelly, Gordon’s head women’s volleyball coach since 2013 and the campus FCA advisor said they are excited to be hosting Green as part of their first ever on campus FCA event: “I love FCA ministry, I was saved in the ministry while in high school.  The opportunity for fellowship between athletes that FCA provides is very real.  It gives them a chance to talk about pressures of competitiveness and opportunities to glorify God as Christian athletes who live to honor Christ both on and off the court.”

FCA was originally started at Gordon by a handful of basketball players who had volunteered to be huddle leaders at FCA’s Camp Kutztown (PA) a number of years ago. “They came back from camp excited about how FCA’s ministry touched coaches and athletes, and desired to start a huddle on Gordon’s campus,” Kelly said.

Today, between 10 and 90 students attend Gordon’s weekly Wednesday evening huddle. “Being a Christian college, our FCA group is more fellowship focused than speaker focused, as our students have speakers regularly at chapel, which gives our students the chance to form relationships with players from other teams.

“We’ve also done quite a bit of outreach through FCA. Our lacrosse and soccer players have interned for youth FCA programs, and one of my volleyball players was an intern for FCA volleyball in CA.  I am hoping we can get more of our FCA students to do more outreach locally in our high schools and in the rest of the community,” Kelly said.

Gordon’s huddle meets every Wednesday night from 9-10 pm in the Bennett Center Classroom.
