I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.Philippians 3:12-14
In the book of Philippians, as Paul is writing to encourage the Philippian Christians from his prison cell, he is not focused on his present situation, nor on his past — but rather he is looking forward to the prize that lies ahead from God through Jesus Christ. I love where he says, “but I focus on this one thing…”
Simplicity is really important in life. In my time with FCA I greatly appreciate the continual focus on the things that matter the most to us as an organization. It seems that the longer I’m a part of team FCA, the more and more focused we have become on one thing as we look forward to what lies ahead. FCA’s commitment to developing coaches who are disciples who can help shape other coaches to become disciples is an inspiring mission to be a part of each day. I deeply appreciate our commitment to invest in coaches and to stay focused on coming alongside them, introducing them to Christ, and helping them deepen their Christian faith.
There are countless blessings that we can appreciate and thousands of lives that have been impacted as God has used FCA to spread the gospel all over the world since 1954. As we look back we give thanks for all that God has done and the successes that He’s blessed the ministry with! And, as we look forward, it’s a new day and once again we “focus on this one thing: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead to press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God through Jesus Christ is calling us.”
Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ – to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.
