Ministry Highlight with Frank Reynoso

A couple of weeks ago, I got an email from one of my coaches saying that he was going to resign from his team. He was offered a great opportunity that was too good to turn down but was also conflicted about the decision; as his absence would put the job positions of his remaining staff in jeopardy. When he finally made the tough call to leave his team, I was faced with the complicated role of helping the rest of his staff through the transition. Although it was difficult, it was also another great opportunity.

You see, I got to be a first responder. I was first on the ground to hear their fears and concerns and could to listen to their hearts. Before the news could get around the school or make it onto social media, I could walk through the initial hurt with these guys and point them back to God, our one true comforter and rock to stand on. I was able to tell these staff members that whether or not they remained employed, that God would stick around for more than just a season of life. He would continue to provide and be faithful to them always.

“God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.” Psalm 46:1-2 (NLT)

We have all seen or been through these messy situations in ministry before. Candidly, it is what we signed up for. Not just for us to coach excellent teams or win championship seasons, but to be ministers of Jesus Christ in uncomfortable and broken circumstances.

Encouraging my team through their difficult adjustment reminded me how impactful the FCA ministry can be for building relationships with coaches. They can be empowered by the fact that whatever hardships the future may hold, they can know who holds their future: our almighty God. May you too be comforted by his guidance and strength in times of trouble.
