As an FCA staff member who has served in several states in the Northeast region, I know how difficult it can be to reach coaches in high schools. More than anything, I want to show them that the Gospel can transform their lives and the lives of the athletes at their schools. However, no matter how discouraged I may feel while serving the coaches in my area, it is important for me to remember that God is always at work. His ways are higher than our own and his timing is perfect.
“The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to be
destroyed, but wants everyone to repent.” – 2 Peter 3:9 (NLT)
After years of developing a close relationship, there is a coach in my area that has recently given his life over to the Lord and is eager to spread the Gospel to others. We meet every other week to talk about faith and sports, and his passion for God has been steadily growing. He has been working hard to develop our coaches huddle and we have now formed a solid community of coaches that look out for each other both on and off the field. Praise God!
While our area is still in the beginning stages of coaches ministry, I am
encouraged to know that God is at work through the mentorships that I pour my life into. I am looking forward to seeing our coaches grow in the Lord together and start more coaches huddles throughout the city of Rochester.
Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ – to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.
