As a young coach I thought I knew best how the players needed to be instructed so we would win. I remember one game where I became overly emotional on the sidelines as I told the players that we needed to score the next goal. Our head coach quickly responded by saying: “Even IF we do not score the next goal, we are still going to win this game.” It was a moment where I appreciated being led by our head coach and his assurance that we would still win no matter what unfolded next.

I was wrong in my assessment of what our team needed that moment. Sometimes we can find victory, even IF we face one more setback on our journey towards victory.

This sideline moment reminds me of a passage in the book of Daniel where Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are being challenged to live out their faith, rather than conform to the patterns of the world.

If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if he doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.” Daniel 3:17-18

In the moment of pressure, they fearlessly declared “IF we are thrown into the blazing furnace” God is able to save us. They also shared that even IF he chose not to rescue them, they would not bow down and dishonor God. They proclaimed that regardless of their life being threatened, they placed their trust in God. Even though they were threatened to be thrown into the fiery furnace, they refused to bow down and worship King Nebuchadnezzar. At that moment, when their faith was put to the ultimate test, their trust in and dependence on God was unwavering. In the end, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are saved from the fiery furnace in a miraculous way.

Maybe you are facing a circumstance to deny your faith and loyalty to God because of the consequence of standing up for what you believe in. Maybe God will release you from this challenging circumstance or maybe he has an even greater miracle awaiting you, as it was for Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego!

IF you put your trust in God, you will never be disappointed in the outcome, EVEN IF it ends up being something other than what you believed you needed!

But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Cor 15:57
