Engage. Equip. Empower.
That is our vision at FCA: To see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.
A few months ago, I met two outstanding coaches in New York City: Coach Mansche, a girls softball coach from Queens, and Coach Rivera, who hails from Brooklyn and works as a boxing trainer. Both coaches wanted to know more about FCA’s coaching program and wanted to become better leaders. It was the perfect opportunity for me to carry out our ministry’s vision in a tangible way.
Over the summer, I sat down with both coaches and explained their deep impact as leaders and how they are able to reach athletes for Christ more than the average person. After taking them through the 3Dimensional Coaching material, I invited both coaches to serve at New York City’s FCA Camp. While they were initially hesitant to speak about the Lord and read scripture to large groups of athletes, it was awesome to watch each coach become more comfortable and excited about sharing the Gospel with players on their team.
After camp, both coaches had caught the bug! They were engaged, equipped, and empowered to do ministry on their own. Coach Mansche went to coach at Albany University and started the first FCA huddle on campus, and Coach Rivera started an FCA huddle at his boxing programs. They both don’t need an FCA person to help lead their huddles because they are now the FCA leaders themselves!
Never underestimate the opportunities that God gives you when you connect with other coaches. If we really embrace what God is calling us to do within ministry, we will see many lives touched through the leadership of those who are engaged, equipped, and empowered by the love of Christ.
Since 1954, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has been challenging coaches and athletes on the professional, college, high school, junior high and youth levels to use the powerful medium of athletics to impact the world for Jesus Christ. FCA focuses on serving local communities by equipping, empowering and encouraging people to make a difference for Christ – to see the world impacted for Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes.
